Geckos

There are several different kinds of geckos in the area, and the Gold Dust Day Gecko (Phelsuma laticauda) is one of the most common.  We often see them outside the house on the lanai beams or under the eaves.  They are originally from Madagascar and may have been introduced in the 1980s.  They are generally shy and run away when approached, but if caught, they become calm and will often relax on your hand (perhaps they like the warmth).
