We were still jet-lagged, so we got up much earlier than usual, around 5 in the morning. Hawaii is five hours behind Chicago, so 5:00am in Hawaii is 10:00am in Chicago. We went to the post office to get a P.O. Box. But they don't have any available, so we got put on the waiting list. They said it could be eight months. To get a mailbox in our subdivision, there's a four to five year wait. So for now our official address is General Delivery in Keaau, Hawaii.
Then we went to see our new house for the first time.

There's our builder, Mitch, on the far right. To the left of the house, is the ring for the water catchment tank. The gray gravel is where the main house will be. |

Mitch filled us in with lots of details about the building process. We feel so fortunate to have found such a good-hearted and conscientious builder. We also met his assistant, Steve. Steve is originally from Michigan, and his parents once lived in Wheaton, right next to our old town, Glen Ellyn.
After seeing the house, we went food shopping. We were happy to find that the natural food store in Keaau has stayed in business during the 5 years since we were last here.
It's going to be such a beautiful guesthouse. I love the porch!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Maria. Yeah, it's a really nice space. It was raining yesterday when we were out at the site, and the lanai stayed perfectly dry because the eaves totally cover it.
