Shangri-La

On our first day in Honolulu, we went to see Shangri La, a mansion built by Doris Duke just outside the city of Honolulu near Diamond Head.
The entry door into the garden.
Banyan tree in the entry courtyard

The property has spectacular views of the ocean and Diamond Head

Doris Duke built the mansion after being inspired by travels through the Islamic world during her honeymoon in 1935.
Her home now serves as a gallery for one of the finest collections of Islamic art in the U.S. Unfortunately, they don't allow photography inside the house.
Locals swim in the harbor fronting the home

The poolside pavilion was modeled on a palace in Iran
