Since the framing, roof, plumbing rough-in, and electrical rough-in are done, we had the framing inspection done. The inspector wanted a few minor changes made (such as blocks put in the walls between floors in the areas where the floor extends between the two levels of the house), but he also informed us that under the new Building Code (adopted about two years ago), the way the stairs to the office were built are not in code. That means they will have to be removed and rebuit. The problem is with the two landings.

Landing at the top |
Each landing is divided into two steps running through the middle of the landing. Under the new code, the thinnest past of the step (at the point) has to be at least six inches deep. Since the stairs were not designed that way, they will have to be rebuilt by making each landing into one step and adding one step each at the top and the bottom.
